The SIP Router Project aims to create a common collaboration framework for all projects related to SIP Express Router (aka SER), referred further as x-SER projects. The projects that joined the initiative so far are: SIP Express Router (SER) - the initial project started in 2002 and Kamailio (OpenSER) - the project started as fork of SER in 2005.
The main goals for the project are:
- bring together the developers and user communities of both projects
- reduce maintenance overhead
- avoid duplicated efforts in development
- develop a core framework that is flexible, extensible and scalable
- promote and build a solid open source SIP server project
- ensure business credibility
- make future forking undesirable, this harms everybody, affects credibility and business
The content of this site as of Nov 04, 2008, is based on the outcome of the discussions conducted by the main developers of the x-SER projects that considered the initiative worthwhile.
It is now the next phase, where everyone is invited to join. A meeting was organized on Nov 10, 2008, in Karlsruhe, Germany. The goal of the meeting was to sort out any issue that is unclear or has potential of risk in this collaboration. A preliminary report is available here.
A mailing list has been created to host the discussions regarding the evolution of this project:
sr-dev [at] lists (dot) sip-router (dot) org
We encourage you to read the content of this site and send feedback to the mailing list, no matter you support this project, you are or are not going to participate to the meeting in Karlsruhe.
